Review: Halo Blooming Tea
Blooming teas are always a delight to the senses. This tea from The Persimmon Tree tea company lives up to these expectations. As you place the tea in hot water, the tightly furled tea slowly begins to open up, one air bubble at a time. It smells like jasmine and peach, and tastes sweet and herbal.
The description of this tea from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company’s site:
A beautifully hand-crafted blooming white tea that displays a ring of jasmine and amaranth flowers, with blueberry and peach essence.
Tasting Notes
Brewing Instructions
Steep at 180 degrees F for 3-5 minutes.
Appearance
The tea sample arrived in a small, very cute single serve package. Thank you to the folks at The Persimmon Tree Tea Company for providing this tea as a sample.
I loved the look of the dry tea bloom, tightly compact in a very precise formation. I can immediately tell that most of the content of this post is going to be about the photos.
After waiting for my tea water to cool to the desired temperature, I dropped the tea ball into the water, and watched it unfurl. The tea was very well bundled, and unfurled with remarkably few parts of the leaf coming loose.
Taste
With very little expertise in this matter, I tend to think that it’s hard to focus on the beauty of the tea while also ensuring that the resulting tea blend is superb. This tea was an example of this, not unpleasant but certainly a bit watery and a tad overpowering on the fruit flavors. The aroma of the steeped tea was fragrant, floral, and very strongly smelling of peach.
While the taste was a bit lackluster, the beauty of the blooming tea makes up for it. Many tea shops advise that you can place the blooming leaf into a vase to use as a table centerpiece. The bloom keeps for quite some time, but make sure you change the water often.
